BIRMINGHAM, AL — Ashley Hodges-Segars, M.S.N., C.R.N.P., a project director and educator with UAB Hospital’s division of neonatology, has been selected by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) to serve on an advisory panel focused on childbearing and newborn health issues. The panel is comprised of health care experts from across the United States.

As an organization of more than 22,000 health care providers, AWHONN is dedicated to advancing the health of women and newborns. “We are excited about harnessing the collective expertise and deep knowledge of this remarkable group of individuals,” said Gail Kincaide, executive director of AWHONN. “Ashley Hodges-Segars is a nurse leader who brings a unique understanding of the complexity of maternal, newborn and neonatal health, as well as the current and future health care delivery environment. Her guidance and counsel will greatly benefit our organization and its members in the coming years.”

AWHONN recently created three panels of recognized health care experts who will advise the organization on challenges and opportunities in three focus areas: childbearing and the newborn, women’s health and professional issues. Advisory panel members will provide recommendations to AWHONN’S board of directors on key trends and developments in the health care industry, as well as research, practice education and policy issues that have implications for the health care of women, newborns and the nursing profession.
