University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Honors Program student Sravanya Gavini, a senior, 22, of Huntsville, and recent UAB graduate Rayna Dyck, 24, of Dothan have each been awarded the Martha G. Wade Fellowship from the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society for 2005-2006

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Honors Program student Sravanya Gavini, a senior, 22, of Huntsville, and recent UAB graduate Rayna Dyck, 24, of Dothan have each been awarded the Martha G. Wade Fellowship from the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society for 2005-2006.

Gavini and Dyck received two of the 23 fellowships awarded annually by Alpha Lamda Delta for graduate study. They competed in a field of 167 applicants across the country. Gavini and Dyck will each receive $5,000 stipends.

Gavini, a 2001 graduate of Grissom High School in Huntsville, is majoring in chemistry. She is the daughter of B.R. and Sobha Gavini of Austin, Texas. Gavini will graduate in May and plans to attend medical school.

Dyck graduated from UAB in 2003 with a degree in history. She holds a second degree in chemistry, which she earned in 2004. Dyck is a former UAB Honors Program student. She will begin medical school at Duke University in August 2005.

Dyck is a 1999 graduate of Northview High School in Dothan. She is the daughter of Fonda Pollard and Ray Charles Dyck of Dothan.

Alpha Lamda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes academic excellence displayed by students during their first academic year at college. Members may apply for the fellowships during their senior year or after receiving their bachelor’s degree.
