Young researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will explain their discoveries in a way non-scientists can understand over coffee or beer in a series called “Discoveries in the Making.”
Join UAB Graduate School students and postdoctoral fellows every second Tuesday of each month at Ghost Train Brewing Company in Birmingham, and the last Sunday of each month at the Abbey Coffee Shop in Avondale, as they explain their cutting-edge research in areas such as changing unhealthy eating behaviors, how to prevent bullying, and the link between breast cancer and heart disease.
“We created this outreach program to give our master’s and doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to share the exciting discoveries they are working on with the general public,” said Lori McMahon, Ph.D., dean of the Graduate School. “Educating the community about the research going on at UAB is part of our responsibility as an institution. It also teaches our young scientists how to explain their research to a general audience, which is something that will help them throughout their careers.”

The Discoveries in the Making series is a free event. Anyone with a UAB ID will receive a 10 percent discount when making purchases at Ghost Training Brewing Company. The series runs through May 27.
