Brass fans and musicians, the University of Alabama at Birmingham will host its annual Trumpet Symposium on Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11.
Presented by the UAB College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music, the Trumpet Symposium is led by Assistant Professor James Zingara, DMA. The Trumpet Symposium is a two-day event that involves clinics, rehearsals and performances for high school and college students. This year’s featured clinicians are Reese Land, DMA, professor of trumpet at the University of Louisville, Zingara and UAB Associate Professor Steve Roberts, DMA.

Two free, public concerts will be offered:
- At 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, Land will perform with UAB faculty Zingara, Roberts and Chris Steele, piano. The program will include works by Eugene Bozza, Benjamin Britten, James Stephenson, Antonio Vivaldi, Jacques Ibert and Leroy Anderson.
- At 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, the symposium’s Festival of Brass finale concert will feature the UAB Trumpet Ensembles as well as honors ensembles made up of area high school students. The event will conclude with a spectacular mass finale composed of more than 50 performers. Both concerts and all events will be in the UAB Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall.
