The University of Alabama at Birmingham is accepting grant applications from local nonprofit organizations for the Local Agency Grant from the UAB Benevolent Fund through March 3.
Organizations must be of 501(c)(3) status and have a local presence in the Greater Birmingham community over a period of three years prior to the application deadline. Such organizations are eligible to apply for a grant of up to $10,000.
“The Benevolent Fund has $100,000 to award through the Local Agency Grant process this year,” said Benevolent Fund Manager Lisa Higginbotham. “Almost $2.2 million has been awarded to approximately 96 local nonprofits through the grant process over the past 33 years.”
The Benevolent Fund aims to recognize the importance of supporting the Birmingham community. Nonprofit organizations that provide education and/or research to meet health care and social service needs are welcome to submit a typed proposal. The Fund is supported by UAB employees wishing to make a difference in their communities. Employee donations and pledges contribute to a substantial sum that is distributed to United Way of Central Alabama and to a number of independent nonprofit organizations within Jefferson County and adjoining counties.
The Agency Review Committee will validate and review all applicant information before making recommendations to the Benevolent Fund Council for funding.
