The University of Alabama at Birmingham will present the film “Changeover” on Monday, Dec. 12, as part of a university screening and discussion.
Produced by UAB Assistant Professor of Music Technology Craig Brandwein, M.A., a noted filmmaker, music supervisor and producer, the film is directed and co-produced by Estes Tarver. Brandwein teaches in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music.
“It is a film that has an encouraging message about how to cope with anxiety, stress, mental illness and overcoming tragedy,” Brandwein said.
Edwin Cook III, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Psychology and director of the Medical/Clinical Psychology Graduate Program, will attend the screening and participate in a group discussion, along with the filmmakers, other clinical psychologists and students.
“Changeover” follows the life of Haley Thompson as she suffers the loss of her parents in a car accident and is forced to move in with her uncle and his 8-year-old son. Throughout her journey, she must overcome the trauma of the accident, the death of her parents and changing homes. She must rebuild her life from scratch with a single dad and his son.
The screening is set for 7 p.m. in the Hill Student Center’s Alumni Theater. The screening is free and open to the public.
