The University of Alabama at Birmingham Institute for Human Rights will host “The Refugee Crisis in the Mediterranean,” a panel discussion that is free and open to the public, Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. in the UAB Hill Student Center Alumni Theater, 1400 University Blvd.
Panelists include:
- Zabia and Firas Attar, refugees from Syria
- Catherine Philips Crowe, director of UAB International Student and Scholar Services
- Serena Simoni, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, Samford University
- Dr. Abidin Yildirim, Ph.D., associate professor, UAB School of Engineering
Tina Kempin Reuter, Ph.D., director of the UAB Institute for Human Rights, will serve as moderator for the panel and provide background on the refugee crisis and issues of human rights.
