Each of the works in “Corporeal” references the human body, either through direct, figural depiction or by metaphorical and psychological means.
Medium: Art Club at UAB, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History, is a student-run organization with a mission to provide UAB students with opportunities for artistic research and creative innovation, professional development, and community outreach and service through a diverse schedule of programming that fosters collaborative relationships across disciplines, around the UAB campus and throughout the Birmingham community.
Department of Art and Art History Assistant Professor of Sculpture Stacey Holloway’s solo exhibition, “Herds,” will be on view in Lowe Mill’s North Floor Gallery.
Holloway’s work can be equal parts charming and unnerving, daunting and humorous. Her sculptures of animals, houses, even teardrop trailers all seem to inhabit two separate worlds, both obsessively detailed and realistic while also phantasmagorical and surreal. She utilizes studies on animal behavior, construction and architectural drafting as vehicles to explore the point between possible success and potential failure, the temporal nature of plans and personal narratives. Holloway incorporates multisensory aspects, audience interaction and a variety of media to create a uniquely powerful gallery experience.
Holloway’s exhibition is made possible in part by funds from UAB’s 2016-2017 Faculty Development Grant Program and the UAB 2016-2017 College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Humanities Grant.
Department of Art and Art History Adjunct Professor Sarah Heath will be featured in a solo exhibition in Lowe Mill’s 3rd Floor East Gallery.
