Sunil Sudarshan, M.D., professor of urology and co-leader of the Cancer Biology and Immunology Program within the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), one of the oldest medical honor societies in the United States.
After a highly competitive nomination process, 80 physician-scientists around the nation were elected to the society for their outstanding achievements in biomedical research.
“Sunil Sudarshan is most worthy of this great honor! He is a highly innovative surgeon-scientist, who skillfully integrates basic and translational science, which will inevitably result in improved patient care,” said Dean Assimos, M.D., chair of the Department of Urology. “Our department and the UAB community are proud of his accomplishments!”
Sudarshan’s lab focuses on the study of metabolic alterations of kidney cancer, referred to as renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The overarching goal is to perform mechanistic studies that will advance the current knowledge base of kidney cancer to develop better methods to treat patients with advanced disease.
