The UAB Department of Urology continues to be a leader in kidney stone research. As the department continues to expand its clinical and translational research, we hope you’ll check back often for updates.
Dr. Sonia Fargue received a K01 grant and will be studying “Glycolate Metabolism and Kidney Oxalate.” This is exciting news for the department and Dr. Fargue! The goal of this project is to establish the contribution of glycolate metabolism to endogenous oxalate synthesis in healthy human subjects and determine the role of the kidney in the synthesis of oxalate from glycolate.
Dr. Tanecia Mitchell was recently published in Redox Biology in a publication titled “Oxalate induces mitochondrial dysfunction and disrupts redox homeostasis in a human monocyte derived cell line.”
Dr. John Knight, Dr. Ross Homes and Dr. Kyle Wood have four industry grants and awards looking at oxalate metabolism and its role in kidney stone disease.
