The Community Pathology Practice Program, led by director William Bell, M.D., is pleased to welcome Teresa Venz-Williamson, M.D., as an assistant professor, starting July 15, 2024.
Venz-Williamson has served as medical director and president of CytoPath, PC, in Alabaster since the early 2000s. She worked her way up from pathologist to technical supervisor of cytology to her current roles. She has served as a consulting pathologist and laboratory medical director at medical centers throughout the state and has been on the Medical Executive Committee as chief of pathology at Shelby Baptist Medical Center and Vaughan Regional Medical Center for 14 years. She also served as chief of the medical staff at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
Venz-Williamson trained as an undergraduate student at UAB before studying for her doctor of medicine degree here. She completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residencies at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham and was chief resident, before completing a cytopathology fellowship at UAB. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and cytopathology.
Her professional affiliations include the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and College of American Pathologists. She was president of the Alabama Association of Pathology from 2004 to 2006 and a board member for the organization from 2002 to today. In Alabama Venz-Williamson is a member of the Cytology Association of Alabama, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Shelby County Medical Society.
