2022 O’Neal NextGen Scholar predoctoral award.
Amr Elhamamsy, a cancer biology theme student in the laboratory of Rajeev Samant, Ph.D., Professor, Molecular and Cellular Pathology, is the recipient of aThe O’Neal NextGen Scholar award is a new initiative by the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center to support the training of future scientific leaders in cancer research. Predoctoral awards enable students to be trained and mentored in cancer research from O’Neal Cancer Center faculty, which expands the students’ potentials to become productive, independent researchers.
Elhamamsy’s proposal investigates how tumor microenvironmental factors can impact tumor progression and metastasis and focuses on understanding the hypoxia related events that drive the spread of metastatic cancer. His research aims to help find new ways to treat metastatic breast cancer and improve the outcome and quality of life for current metastatic patients’ breast cancer.
