Attendees enjoyed refreshments and remarks from Cristina Magi-Galluzzi, M.D., Ph.D., Robert and Ruth Anderson Endowed Chair in Pathology, Brenda Carlisle, CEO of UAB Hospital, Program Sponsor, Anupam Agarwal, M.D., Senior Vice President for Medicine, Dean, Heersink School of Medicine, Program Sponsor, and Sunil Singhal, Program Manager.
Digital pathology will allow the department to gain operational efficiency using diagnostic AI algorithms, faciliate access to subspecialty expertise to enhance diagnostic excellence, extend accessibility to pathologists in rural areas and develop and implement innovative diagnostic approaches for delivering the highest quality healthcare. Pathologists at UAB will have the ability to provide remote intraoperative diagnosis and facilitate timely outreach to UAB affiliates and community hospitals.
"Digital pathology will improve our efficiency, optimize patient care, and maintain competitive workforce dynamics. This technology is revolutionizing clinical practice." said Rati Chkheidze, M.D., an assistant professor in the Division of Neuropathology and medical director of digital pathology. "This program will also be essential for recruiting new faculty and trainees to UAB. "
