The UAB Department of Pathology is pleased to announce the appointment of three Vice Chairs effective April 1.

Selvarangan Ponnazhagan, Ph.D., Endowed Professor in Experimental Cancer Therapeutics, is our permanent Vice Chair for Research, the department’s key research leader. The VCR will assist the Chair in fostering an environment that values and supports research programs and maximizes research funding and productivity that aligns with department goals.

Shannon Bailey, Ph.D., Professor, and Chair, UAB IACUC, is our Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs, serving as the department leader for academic processes of the Heersink School of Medicine. She will work with department members to facilitate academic mentoring for all faculty and will provide oversight of the Department’s annual reviews, faculty appointments, promotions and tenure processes for the HSOM.

Brandi McCleskey, M.D., Associate Professor, Forensics, and Director, Residency Program, will serve as our Vice Chair for Education. In this role, Dr. McCleskey will provide oversight of the Department’s educational programs, including undergraduate, graduate, outreach and continuing medical education. The VCE is responsible for collaboratively developing and implementing the vision for the department’s educational programs in alignment with the HSOM and Department’s strategic plan.

All Vice Chairs are members of the Pathology Leadership Council (PLC) engaged in the overall leadership of the Department, reporting directly to the Chair and working closely with other Vice Chairs, Division Directors, and other faculty-serving groups.
