On April 12, 2022, the Department of Pathology welcomes a new faculty member to the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology, directed by Ralph Sanderson, Ph.D.
Steve Lim, Ph.D., joins the Department as Associate Professor, Molecular and Cellular Pathology. Dr. Lim joins us from the University of South Alabama, where he served as Associate Professor.
Lim received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from Seoul National University, South Korea, and his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2003. He completed his postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute’s Department of Immunology and the University of California San Diego’s Moores Cancer Center where he became an Assistant Project Scientist before joining the University of South Alabama’s faculty as Assistant Professor in 2012 and earning promotion as Associate Professor in 2019.
Lim’s research interests include integrin and ECM signaling in development and human diseases, focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signaling in atherosclerosis and vascular remodeling, nuclear FAK-mediated epigenetic regulation (DNA methylation, nucleosome organization) in the vascular system and cancer, and delineating novel gene function in organ/tissue development using genetically engineered mouse models, among other research topics. He currently holds two active NIH R01s associated with vascular disease research.
Lim serves on the board of the ZTTK Syndrome SON-Shine Foundation and is an active member of the American Heart Association, North America Vascular Biology Organization, American Association for Cancer Research and American Society of Cell Biology.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Steve Lim to the UAB Department of Pathology and back to UAB. His expertise in vascular and cancer biology and extensive teaching experience will be a wonderful addition to the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology.
