On Thursday, July 18, the Department of Pathology hosted a celebration of life program for Jay M. McDonald, M.D., Professor Emeritus and former chair of the Pathology Department.

Dr. McDonald passed away on June 5, 2019. He had served as department chair for close to 20 years, leaving the position in 2008. He continued to visit and advise colleagues and friends at UAB up until his passing.

The ceremony was held at the UAB Alumni House from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitors included former Department chairs, UAB deans and provosts, including School of Medicine Dean Selwyn Vickers, M.D. Colleagues from Dr. McDonald’s time at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri joined other friends and former trainees of McDonald's. The event featured a slideshow of photos and qu
otes by former co-workers and friends who remembered him fondly.
