The Department's administrative team recently added two new members to the staff. Please welcome:

Lisa Smoot transferred to the Department of Pathology on May 8, where her role as Financial Officer II consists of space, equipment and post-award grants management.

Lisa is a UAB alumni with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She worked for 12 years in the UAB Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology as a Research Assistant/Associate assisting in federally funded research involving the regulation of the cAMP specific Phosphodiesterase enzymes (PDEs). During that time, Lisa’s interest expanded toward the administrative side of research, and she began submitting applications for federal grants and contracts. By 2014, her work focused on pre/post-award grants management.  Prior to joining Pathology, Lisa was the Business Officer for the Department of Psychology for almost 3 years. Lisa is happily married to Desmond Smoot, has 3 lovely daughters and enjoys volunteering as member of the Youth Council and Choir ministry at her church.

Tessi Jones is the newest Financial Assistant in the Pathology Administration Department. She’s extremely excited about this new venture in her life.

Tessie has worked more than 20 years in the customer client industry and eight years in finance. She’s not only eager to utilize her skills, she is also thrilled about the opportunity to grow within UAB.
