The UAB Department of Pathology is excited to announce our Chief Residents for the 2024-25 year and thank our 2023-24 Chiefs.
We want to acknowledge the superb example that our 2023-24 Chiefs Drs. Brooke Bartow, Michael Robinson and Jacob Havens have set over the past year. They excelled in their leadership positions, and we thank them all for a job well done.
Our 2024-25 Chief Residents, effective Thursday, February 1, 2024, are:
Kyle Joseph, D.O., M.S. – Chief Resident in Anatomic Pathology
Dr. Joseph is currently completing his PGY2 AP/CP residency year and is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Joseph will complete his fellowship in hematopathology here at UAB after his residency in 2026-2027.
"I chose UAB for its preeminent residency program in pathology-one that integrates expansive training opportunities with exceptional scholarship in research and teaching. I am honored to serve as Chief Resident Physician for the Division of Anatomic Pathology and intend to propagate UAB Pathology's culture of excellence in both patient care and education. As I have done throughout my career, I will apply the lessons gleaned from this leadership role to the next steps in my path."
Caroline Stanek, M.D. – Chief Resident in Clinical Pathology
Dr. Stanek is currently completing her PGY3 AP/CP residency year and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. After residency, Stanek will complete her fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at Yale and is actively considering a second fellowship after 2026.

Amy Theriault, D.O. – Chief Resident in Education and Outreach
Dr. Theriault is currently completing her PGY2 AP/CP residency year and is a graduate of the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Theriault hopes to pursue a fellowship in forensic pathology after completing her residency.
"I look forward to supporting the department in its outstanding resident and medical student education activities and strengthening opportunities for the exploration of pathology as a field for learners of all levels."
