Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ralph Sanderson in his new role as a Director of The Division of Molecular Cellular Pathology (MCP) in our department effective February 15th, 2018.
I would like to thank Dr. John Chatham for his many contributions and his dedicated service in that role for the last seven years! During John’s tenure as Director of MCP Division, the division continued its strong tradition of excellence in basic research and strong performance in securing extramural and intramural funding. As a senior member of the division and the department, I look forward to his continuous valuable input to our research leadership team as we chart a new vision for an even brighter future.
Dr. Ralph Sanderson received his PhD degree in Cell Biology in 1986 from UAB (Advisor, Richard Mayne) followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Merton Bernfield at Stanford University. He joined the faculty in Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1989 and rose to the rank of Professor in 2000. There, he held the Drs. Mae and Anderson Nettleship Chair in Oncologic Pathology and served as Director of Basic Research for the Arkansas Cancer Research Center.Ralph joined the UAB Department of Pathology in 2006. He currently is co-leader of the Cancer Cell Biology Program of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and is the UAB Endowed Professor in Cancer Pathobiology. Dr. Sanderson’s research has been continuously funded by the NIH for 26 years. He is currently the PI on two NIH R01’s, a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Translational Research Award and a Grant from the United States - Israel Binational Science Foundation. He has received numerous awards for his research contributions including most recently the Albert F. LoBuglio Distinguished Faculty Award from the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.Thank you for supporting Dr. Sanderson in his new role.
