On August 1, 2023, the Department of Pathology welcomes a new faculty member to the Division of Anatomic Pathology.
Abdullah Osme, M.D., joins the department as assistant professor, Anatomic Pathology. Osme previously served as a gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology fellow at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Osme received his medical degree from Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University in Canakkale, Turkey in 2013. Following graduation, he worked as an Emergency Care Physician at the Karacoban Community Hospital in Erzurum, Turkey. In 2015, Osme pursued a one-year residency in family medicine at the Istanbul Gaziosmanpasa Taksim Research and Training Hospital before completing his first postdoctoral research fellowship in liver lipid metabolism in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He went on to complete two additional postdoctoral research fellowships in Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Biology and Digestive Health Research Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2022, Osme completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University Hospital/Case Western Reserve University before joining Emory’s fellowship program.
Osme’s research is primarily focused on gastrointestinal and liver pathology. He is particularly interested in inflammatory bowel disease and associated neoplasms in human and experimental models. Along with his focus on research, Osme has extensive teaching experience. In addition to mentoring several rotating residents and medical students, he taught weekly liver transplant conferences, luminal and rectal tumor boards, gastroenterology teaching conferences and monthly journal clubs.
Osme is a member of the American Society of Investigative Pathology (ASIP), Hans Popper Hepatopathology Society, Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society (GIPS), United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and College of American Pathologists (CAP).
