Three faculty members in the UAB Department of Otolaryngology have received promotions as of Oct. 1, 2024. Two of the three faculty members also received tenure.

Do-Yeon Cho, M.D. M.S., was promoted from associate professor to professor with tenure. Cho, who is the Director of the Smell and Taste Clinic and section chief of ENT at VA Birmingham, joined UAB in the Department of Surgery in 2014 as an assistant professor. In 2019, he became an associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology. He currently serves several leadership positions at the national level, is the International Committee Chair of the American Rhinologic Society, and President-Elect of the Korean American Otolaryngology Society. He is also a clinician-scientist, and his lab has been funded by NIAID and NIH, whose interests are a preclinical model of chronic sinusitis, cystic fibrosis carrier, Pseudomonas sinusitis, and olfaction.
Erika Walsh, M.D., was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor. A specialist in lateral skull base surgery, implantable hearing devices, and chronic ear disease, Walsh serves as the Director of the Division of Otology/Neurotology in the Department of Otolaryngology. She treats the full spectrum of neurotology patients, including children and adults with hearing loss, chronic ear infections and cholesteatoma, vestibular disorders, and benign and malignant tumors of the skull base. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Walsh came to UAB in 2012 as a resident in the Department of Otolaryngology. After completing her neurotology fellowship at the Michigan Ear Institute, she returned as faculty in 2019.
Jason Warram, Ph.D., was promoted from associate professor to professor with tenure. Warram, who is the Director of the Head and Neck Research Lab, earned his Ph.D. from UAB in 2011 and joined the Department of Surgery in 2013 as an instructor and then assistant professor. He joined the Department of Otolaryngology in 2014 as an assistant professor and became associate professor in 2019. His research focuses on image-guided surgery in head and neck cancer patients.
