Congratulations to Clay Spitler, M.D., and Associate Professor Ashish Shah, M.D., who are assuming new leadership roles in the department. Effective Nov. 1, Spitler will become the director of clinical research and Shah will transition to the role of director of international education.
In this role as Director of Clinical Research, Spitler will be working to streamline the department’s clinical research operations, grow its grant portfolio and identify gaps in resources that can be filled to improve our research endeavors.
As Director of International Education, Shah will use his education background to expand the international program he has developed for the Foot and Ankle section to the other sections in the department. Over the past eight years, Shah has trained over 55 fellows from countries such as India, China and Brazil. He also supports a nonprofit in revamping curriculum for orthopaedic residents worldwide.
“Both Drs. Spitler and Shah have dedicated themselves to two of our department’s core pillars– education and research,” said Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Steven Theiss, M.D. “I know that both of them will continue to grow as professionals while improving the department as whole, and I look forward to supporting their work.”
