This month, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery said “goodbye” to its six outgoing residents who will leave UAB for their next career steps, taking them across the nation. As part of this year’s resident graduation and annual Resident Research Day, the department presented residents and supporting faculty with several awards in recognition of their accomplishments.
Recipients of this year’s awards were:
- Scholar of the Year: Eric Wilkinson, M.D.
- Resident with the highest 2019/2020 OITE.
- Clinician of the Year: Shane Strom, M.D.
- Resident with most case logs for 2019/2020 academic year.
- Researcher of the Year: Charles Pitts, M.D.
- Resident with the most publications.
- John Gould Award Outstanding Junior Resident: Shane Strom, M.D.
- Outstanding junior resident chosen by the chiefs.
- Neimann Award Outstanding Chief Resident of the Year: Zane Hyde, M.D.
- Outstanding chief resident chosen by faculty.
- Faculty MVP- Herrick Siegel, M.D.
- Faculty member that attended events, supported residents, and contributed to the residency program.
- Faculty Mentor of the Year: Clay Spitler, M.D.
- Faculty member with the most contributions to research and publications. PubMed used for determination.
- Neimann Award Outstanding Faculty of the Year: Keith Weaver, M.D.
- Outstanding faculty member chosen by chiefs.
