Department of Orthopaedic Surgery consultant and former faculty member Jack E. Lemons, Ph.D., recently received the Charles B. Dudley award. Lemons is also a professor emeritus in the UAB Schools of Medicine, Engineering and Dentistry.
The Charles B. Dudley Award, established by the American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM), was created to stimulate research leading to standardization and increase the knowledge interest in the award recipient’s field. Lemons has been recognized for his efforts on papers “Metal-On-Metal Total Hip Replacement Devices” and “Modularity and Tapers in Total Joint Replacement Devices.”
The publications are fundamental in progressing research in adult reconstruction in orthopaedic surgery. He has been an (ASTM) member since 1974 and has spent over 50 years mentoring and chairing more than 300 student theses and dissertations, leading to more than 600 publications. His research activities include interactions supporting in vitro and in vivo research for medical and dental implants.
“Lemons exemplifies UAB’s dedication to progressing medicine through research. We are proud to have him a part of our team and recognized for his outstanding work in medicine” said Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Steven Theiss, M.D.
