UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Professor Brent A. Ponce, M.D., Associate Professor Herrick J. Siegel, M.D., and Chair Steven M. Theiss, M.D. were named best doctors in orthopaedic surgery, and Clinical Assistant Professor Joseph Sherrill, M.D., was named a best doctor in hand surgery on the official Best Doctors® list.

Best Doctors® was founded in 1989 by Harvard Medical School physicians, and it utilizes a polling method and proprietary balloting software that allows doctors to recognize other doctors as the best in their fields. Best Doctors mimics a peer-to-peer process that doctors use when locating the right specialist for their own patient.

Theiss is pleased that four of the UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery’s faculty have been named, including him.

“For me, it’s a great honor to be recognized among my peers as a Best Doctor,” said Theiss. “I think it speaks volumes that our faculty comprised half of the Orthopaedic Surgery Best Doctor’s category– I’m proud to work with such an outstanding, innovative and talented team.”
