The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences recently held its annual Symposium, and this year, we were pleased to welcome featured speakers Sophie J. Bakri, MD, from the Mayo Clinic, Geoffrey Tabin, MD, from Stanford Byers Eye Institute, and Mark A. Terry, MD, from Devers Eye Institute.

At the Symposium, resident and teaching awards were given to the following:

PGY-2 Calvin McNelly won for his poster: Pembrolizumab-induced Nodular Posterior Scleritis: A Case Report

PGY-3 Brent Hoffman won for his presentation: Response of Uveitic CME to Combination Topical Therapy

PGY-4 Sam Feldman won for his presentation: Barriers to Receiving Care for Diabetic Retinopathy in the South

In addition to the resident awards, the department announced two teaching awards. Priscilla Fowler, MD, received the Crystal Apple Award, and John Paul Luckett, MD, received the Brass Apple Award.

Finally, we were excited to celebrate Christopher Girkin, MD, who was named the 2022 Distinguished Alumnus.
