Dr. Marcela Frazier is originally from Colombia, South America. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Pediatrics. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Molecular Biology. She went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, where she completed a Doctor of Optometry degree, and a pediatric residency. She also completed a Master’s degree in Public Health in Epidemiology at UAB. She is Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
She is on the Board of Directors of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) and has taken her students on several mission trips to Nicaragua, Perú, Honduras, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Colombia.
Dr. Frazier has been an investigator for several National Eye Institute (NEI) Studies, including the Amblyopia Treatment Studies with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG), The Correction of Myopia Evaluation Trial (COMET) and the Convergence Insufficiency Treatment Trial (CITT).
