The Department of Urology hosted its 2026 Annual Resident Research Symposium on June 10, 2026, bringing together faculty, trainees, and staff for an afternoon of scholarly presentations and discussion.

Throughout the program, residents presented their work alongside medical students, graduate students, and research staff, highlighting a wide range of topics from surgical outcomes and workforce projections to translational and basic science studies. The event also included a poster session and reception, giving attendees the opportunity to engage more closely with presenters and their research.

Ryan Hsi, M.D., of the University of California, IrvineRyan Hsi, M.D.Keynote speaker Ryan Hsi, M.D., of the University of California, Irvine, delivered a presentation titled “Pivot, Partner, Persist: Lessons in Building an Academic Research Center.” A nationally recognized leader in kidney stone research, Hsi has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a principal investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health-funded studies.

He encouraged trainees to stay adaptable, build strong collaborations, and continue moving forward, offering a perspective that resonated with residents preparing for careers in academic medicine and beyond.

The symposium concluded with the Resident Research Award presented to Caroline Wade, M.D., PGY3, for her presentation, “Feasibility and Early Outcomes of the Calyxo Vacuum Ureteroscopic Device in Pediatric Renal Stone Management: A First-in-Pediatrics Case Series.”

The annual symposium continues to serve as a dedicated space for sharing work, recognizing achievement, and supporting the development of trainees across the department.
