Bonnie Beth Moore, M.D., joined the Department of Radiology as an assistant professor in July 2026. She received an American Chemical Society-certified bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in biology from Delta State University and earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi. She trained at UAB for both residency and fellowship before joining the faculty.
Moore shares more about her background and goals for this new role.
What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
Moore: Radiology in general allows you to participate in dozens of patients’ care each day in a myriad of ways. The breadth and depth, that vastness, drew me to radiology. Musculoskeletal imaging in particular attracted me because sports pathology interests me as a former collegiate athlete and current very slow runner.
What aspects of your new role here are you most excited about?
Moore: I’m most excited about my new role as director of wellness. It’s something I strive for in my personal life, and I hope to give more people in the department the tools to stay mentally and physically resilient.
What are your goals for making an impact through both your teaching and patient care in this role?
Moore: I’d like to create a safe learning environment where residents feel comfortable asking questions and confident after we’ve discussed cases.
As for patient care, I’m so pleased that I typically have two patient-facing procedure days per week. After I’ve read the radiographs, CTs and MRIs and discussed the cases at tumor board, it’s nice to finally meet these patients whom I feel like I already know. I really enjoy when I’m able to meet their loved ones and help settle any nerves before and after the procedure. I’m honored they allow me to participate in their care during what can be a very trying experience.
