Get to know Dr. Spiletic better with three quick questions!
What do you look forward to about training in the UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology and/or UAB in general?
Spiletic: The expansive patient population that comes to UAB. I love emergency psychiatry and have the opportunity to see a wide spectrum of cases – from drug-induced psychosis to primary conditions like schizophrenia and catatonia.
Why did you pursue a career in psychiatry?
Spiletic: I pursued psychiatry after my exposure to the rotation in my third year of medical school. I was drawn to it because I get to spend meaningful time with each patient, truly getting to understand their experience and perspectives. I also appreciate the complexity of the field – without definitive lab tests, every diagnosis requires deep listening, critical thinking, and a nuanced approach to treatment.
What do you like to do when you're not at work?
Spiletic: I love to golf, play basketball, Xbox, and travel to new places.
