As an Administrative Office Specialist IV, Alfano plays a key role in coordinating schedules, maintaining important clinic resources and supporting the teams who care for patients and families.

Alfano says the supportive culture at UAB and the relationships she has built throughout the years have made her time in the department especially meaningful.

“UAB has been a supportive company to work for,” said Alfano. “I’ve also built a great community with my coworkers over the years.”

In her role, Alfano maintains schedules for several clinics and residents while coordinating closely with attending physicians and trainees on any changes to clinic schedules. She also updates forms and information provided to families, helping ensure patients receive clear and accurate resources when they visit the clinic.

When asked to describe her work in one word, Alfano chose fulfilling.

“My job is fulfilling because I enjoy helping support the clinics and making sure everything runs smoothly for our teams and the families we serve,” Alfano said.

One accomplishment she is especially proud of is her work alongside Margaret Canter, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Division of Academic General Pediatrics. Through that collaboration, Alfano has helped support efforts to provide greater access to mental health care for patients in the Primary Care Clinic.

“Being able to assist with providing much needed access to mental health care for our Primary Care Clinic patients has been very meaningful,” Alfano said.

Outside of work, Alfano enjoys spending her free time reading. When asked about a favorite local spot in Birmingham, she recommends Giuseppe’s Italian Café.

Through her dedication and attention to detail, Alfano continues to help ensure the Division of Academic General Pediatrics runs smoothly while supporting the care of children and families across the community.
