On April 20, 2026, Eldad Hadar, M.D., will join the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery as a professor.
Hadar completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota. He initially trained in general surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and then began his neurosurgical residency at the University of Wisconsin. He later completed a two-year fellowship in functional and epilepsy surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
From 2001 to 2026, Hadar served as a neurosurgeon at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, where he maintained an active general neurosurgery practice, treating a wide range of cranial and spinal conditions.
Hadar held several leadership roles at UNC, including 16 years as the neurosurgery residency program director, during which he oversaw the expansion of the program’s size and clinical training opportunities. He also served for more than 10 years on the UNC Hospitals Professional Liability Committee, including five years as chair.
Hadar’s wife, Janet, is a health care executive. In their free time, they enjoy traveling and outdoor activities such as running, cycling and skiing. They have two grown sons who are pursuing graduate business degrees.

Hadar 's practice is located at the Neurosurgery Clinic at UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s.
Hadar is accepting referrals for patients with spinal decompression for stenosis, disc herniation, radiculopathy and myelopathy, spinal cord and spinal column tumors, spine stabilization and fusion, spinal trauma, Chiari malformations, hydrocephalus, and benign, malignant and metastatic brain tumors.
