blackwell headshot 600x450Brent Blackwell has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery as an advanced practice provider (APP) serving the Neurosurgery Inverness Clinic and the Neurosciences One Neurosurgery Clinic at The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital.

Blackwell brings more than 10 years of experience as a physician assistant, with a clinical and surgical background spanning orthopedics, urgent care and, most recently, the UAB Adult Sickle Cell Program. These roles have helped him develop a broad clinical skill set and a strong, patient-focused approach to care.

He earned his physician assistant degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2015 and is currently completing his Master of Business Administration degree at UAB. He completed his undergraduate studies at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.

Originally from Panama City, Florida, Blackwell moved to Alabama for college, where he met his wife during his freshman year. The couple has been married for 16 years and has three sons, ages 11, 9 and 7.

Outside of work, Blackwell enjoys playing guitar, hiking with his family, following Auburn athletics, and participating in early-morning workouts with his F3 group. According to Blackwell, he is “grateful for the opportunity to join the UAB Neurosurgery team and looks forward to contributing to the department’s mission of delivering exceptional patient care.”
