The UAB Department of Neurology is pleased to announce that Aparna Vaddiparti, M.D., has been appointed as the department’s new Wellness Champion. In this role, Vaddiparti will lead efforts to foster a culture of well-being for faculty, staff, and trainees, working closely with the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness.
Wellness Champions serve as advocates and leaders within their departments to promote workplace well-being, professional fulfillment, and engagement. Their responsibilities include sharing wellness resources, organizing initiatives such as recognition programs and stress-relief activities, and gathering feedback to help shape departmental wellness priorities. They also serve as liaisons between their department and the Office of Wellness, ensuring that faculty and staff have access to tools and support that enhance connection and a sense of belonging.
“The compassion that we all have for our patients, if we can extend it to oneself and one another, that forms the framework for workplace well-being and protects against individual burnout,” Vaddiparti said. “I am proud that our leadership has not just been supportive, but proactive, about wellness – conducting surveys to actively seek feedback on institutional culture and individual burnout. Personally, I am grateful to Dr. Standaert and Dr. Bashir for trusting me with this role.”
Vaddiparti said she looks forward to collaborating with colleagues to identify actionable steps that support both individual and organizational thriving. Her appointment reflects the department’s commitment to creating a supportive and engaged workplace culture.
