The Year Two Questionnaire (Y2Q) is administered by the AAMC each year to active second-year medical students regarding topics such as learning climate, adjustment to medical school, and future career plans. The results are reviewed closely by Department of Medical Education leadership to determine areas of success and areas of improvement within our learning environment and student experience.
Overall Satisfaction with Medical Education
- 93.3% of HSOM respondents were satisfied with the quality of their medical education. This is highest HSOM % in 6 years and above the 2025 National average of 90.2%
Faculty Mentoring
- 86.2% of HSOM Students were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with faculty mentoring, higher than the National average and the highest % of HSOM students in 3 years
Learning Environment
- Student awareness of school policies regarding medical student mistreatment steadily increased during last 5 years to 96.7% (highest HSOM % in 6 years), but awareness of procedures for mistreatment reporting fell slightly from the prior year
- Students reported HSOM faculty consistently being respectful of other health professions, as well as other specialties, scoring higher than National average in both areas
Student Support
- Students’ overall satisfaction with Academic Counseling and Student Health Services were higher than the 50th percentile nationally
Career Plans
- Nearly 2/3 of HSOM students plan to pursue Teaching
- About 1 in 3 students aspire to be Medical School Faculty
- Approximately half plan to participate in Research during their careers
