Rebekah Weil, M.D., has been named the associate division director for medical education for the Division of General Internal Medicine and Population Science.
Weil, a clinician-educator and associate professor of medicine, completed her residency and chief residency at UAB before pursuing a General Internal Medicine Fellowship for Medical Education at Oregon Health and Science University.
In her new role, Weil will guide the division’s education strategy, support clinician educators and promote teaching, mentorship and program development.
She currently provides care in both outpatient clinics and inpatient services at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, and she extends her commitment to high-need patient populations through her work at Cooper Green Mercy Health Services. Weil also directs the Internal Medicine Residency’s Health Disparities Track and has made lasting contributions to medical education through her leadership of the Patient, Doctor, and Society module for first-year medical students and the Department of Medicine MedEd Track for sub-specialty fellows.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Weil step into this important leadership role,” said Andrea Cherrington, M.D., director of the division. “Her passion for teaching and her commitment to supporting learners and faculty alike make her the ideal person to lead our division’s education mission.”
Cherrington added she looks forward to the innovation Weil will bring.
