UAB’s Spain Rehabilitation Center celebrates its 50th anniversary with a scientific symposium on traumatic brain injury.
A paper authored by Michael DeVivo, Dr.PH., director emeritus of the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center, was the most-cited paper published in Spinal Cord in 2012.
The foundation —founded by Mike Jezdimir, who was diagnosed with transverse myelitis  in 1967 — raised money by hosting events throughout Alabama.
Cory Smith and Melissa Jordan are recipients of the Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students grant program, which will fund eight weeks of scholarly research in physical medicine and rehabilitation. 
The Mike L. Jezdimir Transverse Myelitis Foundation supports TM research at UAB in eight disciplines.
Founder Mike Jezdimir believes the foundation will have a profound effect on better understanding of TM and potential therapies for the disease.
The adult spina bifida clinic, housed in UAB’s Spain Rehabilitation Center, brings the three key specialties together in one place, and can tap into the rest of UAB’s medical expertise as needed.
