Anderson attended Auburn University for his undergraduate studies in biochemical sciences and completed medical school and an anesthesiology residency at UAB before joining the institution as a faculty member.
Learn what inspired Anderson to pursue a career in anesthesiology, what excites him most about his role as an assistant professor, and his goals for making an impact within the department.
What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
Anderson: Many pathways in medicine appealed to me, but ultimately the field of anesthesiology won out, given the unique combination of procedural work, pharmacology, and physiology.
What aspects of your new role here are you most excited about?
Anderson: I’m excited to join the faculty here at UAB that I highly respected during my training. I’m proud to practice medicine in my home state and eager to contribute to the education of future generations of anesthesiologists.
What are your goals for making an impact through both your teaching and patient care in this role?
Anderson: I believe striving to provide the best possible care throughout the perioperative process accomplishes two goals: personal fulfillment in day-to-day work and being an example that residents can look to. Success in anesthesiology is defined by your capability in the small, intense moments, and having the opportunity to teach residents to prepare, anticipate, and treat the many curveballs that may come their way is very rewarding.
