Adjunct Professor of Neurosurgery Beverly Walters, M.D., MSc, FRCSC, FACS, recently accepted the role of director of resident research in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery.

In her role, Walters will work to establish a comprehensive research agenda for residents in the Department of Neurosurgery and support its development and infrastructure.

Walters, who has extensive experience in clinical research, specializing in the design and implementation of randomized controlled trials, case-control studies and meta-analyses, will provide support primarily to PGY4 and PGY5 neurosurgery residents.

Outside of quarterly in-person meetings, Walters will be available virtually to assist residents as they define new research projects and complete those ongoing, apply for funding and work to increase their number of publications.

In the capacity of her role, Walters will mentor residents, guiding them to accomplish the goals set by the department and UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
