The Department of Neurosurgery’s Lori Mehaffey, DNP, RN-BC, and Caitlin Dalgo, CRNP, RNFA, were each recently honored for clinical “excellence” by UAB Medicine.
Mehaffey, director of clinical services in the Department of Neurosurgery, has received a 2019 Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award for Leadership Excellence. The Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award is the highest honor available for nursing staff within the UAB Health System.

Each year, professional nurses and nursing support staff are considered for the Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award based on their nursing knowledge, technical skills and clinical leadership. The awards are presented during the American Nurses Association's annual National Nurses Week, which begins each year on May 6 and concludes on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday.
UAB Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Terri Poe commended recipients of this prestigious award on UAB One for their dedication to improving patient care and for living UAB Medicine's Core Values through their continual display of accountability, compassion, integrity and collaboration.
Dalgo, an APP team lead and clinical instructor within the Department of Neurosurgery, was also recently recognized for her commitment to these Core Values through UAB Medicine’s Excellence in Action Program.

The Excellence in Action Program was designed to allow patients, visitors or employees to recognize a UAB Medicine employee who has gone above and beyond their assigned responsibilities. Department of Neurosurgery Executive Administrator Donna Bailer, LLM, JD, also received this distinction in May 2017.
Employees who are recognized through the Excellence in Action Program receive a thank-you note signed by their immediate supervisor and senior leader and are listed on UAB One.
