University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professor Satoru Osuka, M.D., Ph.D., was recently promoted to a full-time tenure-track assistant professor.
Dr. Osuka joined the department as an assistant professor in 2019 after completing a neurosurgical postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Gene Regulation at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan.
His research focuses on the cellular and molecular biology of therapeutic resistance in brain tumors. He is working to identify and target the mechanisms that drive chemo- and radio-therapy resistance in tumors so they will better respond to further treatment.
Using his extensive experience in neuro-oncology, neurosurgery and bioinformatics analysis, Dr. Osuka has made many valuable contributions to the Heersink School of Medicine’s Department of Neurosurgery.
