The Department of Neurosurgery has selected Anastasia Holland to serve as staff diversity liaison to the School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion (ODI).
In this role, Holland will work alongside other diversity liaisons to champion a workplace environment, specifically in the Department of Neurosurgery, that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion among staff.
The SOM ODI Department Liaisons group is comprised of faculty members representing each department in the School of Medicine. Liaisons are nominated for the position and are an important link between the Office for Diversity & Inclusion and the departments.
Members have an interest in enhancing the diversity of the SOM and building a more inclusive environment for all. They advise the ODI and provide feedback and input on priorities, initiatives, activities, and issues. Also, liaisons help the office understand the various cultures within departments, their needs, and how they may best be supported.
“In any organization, the staff are the heart of the institution, and it is important that input and feedback be provided from this grassroots level,” said Holland. “The department has done a great job placing priority on diversity and inclusion. I look forward to getting the opportunity to expand upon what has already been built.”
She will join other department diversity liaisons in a monthly meeting in September to kick off diversity liaison efforts.
