More than 1,200 interns, residents and fellows train in every medical specialty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and at regional campuses in Montgomery, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa and Selma. Each year, a class of trainees graduate and a new class joins UAB, setting off on their trainee experience, whether it be a one-year fellowship program or a seven-year residency.
The Department of Neurosurgery’s Residency Program is a seven-year residency dedicated to clinical, surgical and professional development. Neurosurgery trainees participate in a contemporary neurosciences educational paradigm and enjoy a graduate level of experience and responsibility in the care and management of neurosurgical patients.
In addition to providing superior technical training, the program is uniquely structured to the professional development of our residents, with the goal of creating leaders in the field of neurosurgery. Graduates of the residency program pursue fellowships, academic neurosurgical junior faculty positions and private practice opportunities throughout the country.
