UAB Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professors Jakub Godzik, M.D., M.S. (left), and Marshall Holland, M.D., M.S. (right), were awarded a UAB Faculty Development Grant.
The grant program, which is a partnership between the UAB Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost, is a rigorous application process. The grant provides early-career faculty approximately $100,000 annual funding with seed money to pursue research, creative works, and scholarly activity.
22 faculty across UAB were awarded between $3,000-$5000 for the 2022-2023 academic year, including Godzik and Holland.
Godzik’s project is a pilot study of the social and psychological correlations of structural back pain that impact patient outcomes after spinal surgery, while Holland’s project will evaluate spinal cord stimulation’s modulatory effect on blood pressure in patients with neuropathic pain.
