Ibrahim Tekedereli, M.D., joins the UAB Department of Neurosurgery as an instructor in the lab of Professor and James Garber Galbraith Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery James Markert, M.D., MPH. Tekedereli earned his medical degree and completed his residency in medical genetics in Turkey before relocating to Houston, TX, where he completed his postdoctoral training at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
During his time at MD Anderson, Tekedereli worked in research relating to novel targets and molecular mechanisms for cancer treatment, particularly breast and ovarian cancers. He returned to Turkey upon receiving a faculty position at Inonu University Medical School and started practicing medical and diagnostic genetics, clinical cancer genetics and continuing his cancer research.
Tekedereli will now be working with Markert to research the use of immunovirotherapy in the treatment of glioma.
In his free time, Tekedereli enjoys hiking, fishing and working to improve his cooking skills.
