The University of Alabama at Birmingham was recognized as an industry leader in stroke care by receiving the Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) designation by the Joint Commision and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
By meeting the Joint Commission’s standards for Disease-Specific Care CSC Certification, UAB became the first hospital in Alabama with CSC certification, earning the highest level of hospital certification and joining an elite group of providers responsible for providing highly specialized stroke care.
As a CSC, UAB is able to offer stroke patients access to round-the-clock, state-of-the-art, potentially lifesaving services.
The Joint Commission’s CSC Certification program is the most demanding stroke certification and is designed for hospitals that have specific abilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. In collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, the Joint Commission ensures that its dedicated centers’ are committed to a patient-centric approach, continuously evaluating and evolving patient care at every touch point in the stroke care continuum.
