Biography
Dr. Burleson is a native of Jackson, Tennessee, and a graduate of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at UAB in 2017. He developed and completed a novel fellowship, Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Resource Limited Settings, which focuses on the use of point-of-care ultrasound in settings where access to diagnostic imaging is limited and tropical diseases are common.
He is an Assistant Professor, and Program Director of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Resource Limited Settings (PURLS) fellowship, as well as Director of the emergency ultrasound medical student elective. He instructs medical students, residents, and fellows in point-of-care ultrasound and global emergency medicine. He has worked and taught clinically in east and west Africa, southeast Asia, as well as Central and South America. He is currently developing a point-of-care ultrasound curriculum for family medicine trainees in East Africa with colleagues in East Africa and the UAB Departments of Emergency Medicine and Radiology.
