UAB Medicine passed an impressive milestone last Friday: successful completion of 200,000 ambulatory telehealth visits since March 16, 2020. Medical Director for Telehealth Eric Wallace, MD (Associate Professor, Nephrology) reports that our speedy adoption of the UAB e-Medicine platform was vital to provide necessary healthcare for our patients during the pandemic, and it will continue to expand our access to patients for years to come. To every patient care provider from schedulers, to the MSO office, informatics, CMAs, nurses, compliance and clinicians, we salute you!

Lindsey Harris, DNP, CRNP, FNP-BC will be inducted today as the first African American President of the Alabama Nurses Association in its 107 year history. Dr. Harris currently works as an Inpatient Glycemic Control Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. Congrats, Dr. Harris!
Lufang Zhou, PhD (Associate Professor, Cardiovascular Disease) and colleagues in Biomedical Engineering have collaborated on a new cancer-fighting technology. The design can be likened to a glow-in-the-dark Trojan horse that makes cancer cells build their own self-destruct switch. Three cheers on this exciting science, Dr. Zhou!
The American Medical Association Resident and Fellow Section has announced that Usman Hasnie, MD (PGY-1) will serve as Vice Chair for the standing Committee on Public Health for 2020-2021. This committee is comprised of nine members from across the country and contributes to AMA public health policy. Kudos, Dr. Hasnie!
Sheetal Gandotra, MD (Assistant Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care) will lead a new stand-alone Critical Care Medicine Fellowship. This ACGME accredited program will fill two positions beginning in July 2021. Positions will be filled internally, and interested applicants should reach out to Dr. Gandotra for details.
Dr. Navin Nanda (Distinguished Professor, Cardiovascular Disease) was recently honored by the Echocardiography Editorial Board for over 30 years of outstanding leadership as Editor-in-Chief of Echocardiography. The journal was the first to be published in the field of echocardiography in the world.
