Jeffrey Curtis, MD, MS, MPH (Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology) has been approved for a $2.5 million funding research award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to study comparative effectiveness and safety of biologic and newer therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis and vasculitis. 

Garima Arora, MD (Cardiovascular Disease) first-authored a paper in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging where the group reported normative right ventricle data using cardiac MRI in nearly 2,000 individuals.

Ynhi Thomas (MS3) was awarded an Alliance to the Medical Association of the State of Alabama Scholarship to cover the costs of residency application. 

Here is a trivia tidbit you may not know about Alabama. Fort Payne was once the “Sock Capital of the World.” According to a recent New York Times feature article, a Birmingham woman is working hard to restore it’s former glory with a trendy, colorful line of organic cotton socks. #bitsaboutbama #lovewhereyoulive

Nominations are now open for the 2016 Dean’s Excellence Awards. Two awards—one to a junior faculty member and the other to a senior faculty member—will be given in each of five areas: service, teaching, research, diversity enhancement and mentorship.
