“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Carmen for more than 10 years,” said assistant professor Jennifer Larson-Casey, M.D. “She consistently demonstrates kindness, professionalism and an unwavering willingness to help, no matter the task.”
In her role, Nail manages a range of financial responsibilities for the division’s 350 employees. Her diligence ensures critical, time-sensitive payments are processed accurately and on time.
“A few years ago, I had a complex travel reimbursement related to an international conference,” Larson-Casey said. “Carmen meticulously organized and compiled all receipts, credit card statements and required documentation, even navigating purchases made in euros while we waited for the charges to post, which brought us close to the deadline.”
Larson-Casey added that Nail’s clear communication with both investigative and financial teams kept everyone informed and helped ensure the process was completed on time.
In addition to her strong work ethic, Nail is known for her willingness to learn. She maintains a positive attitude and develops new skills until they are mastered. Nominators highlighted her organization, transparency, and resourcefulness, noting her ability to gather information and identify effective solutions.
Many also praised her collaborative spirit. Whether assisting teammates during construction disruptions, delivering items across campus or managing daily responsibilities, Nail works seamlessly across labs, staff and teams—helping create a more efficient and enjoyable work environment.
“Carmen is a joy to work with and represents the very best of what we all strive to emulate,” said division administrator Elizabeth Westfall. “We simply would not function smoothly without her.”
Thank you, Carmen, for 15 years of outstanding service to the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine and the department. We celebrate you as the Spring 2026 DOM STAR for Staff Excellence award recipient.
